• The city of Ushuaia, Argentina, is the capital of Tierra del Fuego, and boasts that it is "the Southernmost City in The World". This city is also famous(infamous) for being the site of Tierra del Fuego prison. With a backdrop of the Andes Moutains, and abutting upon the Beagle Channel, this was a prison at the end of the world.

  • The Osorno Volcano towers above the landscape of all the nearby towns near Puerto Vara, not too far from the Puerto Montt, where our cruise ship, the Crown Princess anchored.

This active volcano covered the landscape with ash two years ago.

Puerto Varas, known as the city of roses, is located near the Vicente Perez Rosales National Park.

This park contains the Petrohue River and Falls, as well as the beautiful Lake Esmeralda.

  • Cape Horn's weather is nortorious for being bad. When the Crown Princess cruised around the Horn, we were blessed with fair weather. Nature Photo Journals photographer was delighted.

  • The emerald waters rushing down the Petrohue River explode over the rocky slopes in the Vicente Perez Rosales National Park in Chile, near Puerto Montt.

  • As luck would have it, we arrived in the area near the Amalia Glacier in Chile, South America, on a heavily overcast day.

The glacier was shrouded in heavy fog making it difficult to photograph.

Still, as we navigated through the ice field of fairly large mini-icebergs, the glacier was exciting to see, as we took a scenic cruise down the west coast of Chile, South America.
    Amalia Glacier_rm.jpg
  • The Amalia Glacier displays the blue ice that we were told is due to the oxygen trapped within it's structure. The landscape was enhanced by the mountains and the low hanging clouds this morning.

  • While cruising aboard a Princess ship through the inland passage, we stopped at Juneau.

We kayaked on a lake at the base of the Mendenhall Glacier on a cold and rainy day.

We were quite miserable due to the rain and the cold, but the experience was a life defining event!

Due to the weather, we did not get as close to the glacier as we would have liked.

Nevertheless, I would repeat the experience in a heartbeat!

Wildlife was scarce, but we did spot bald eagles on a nearby island.

  • Arches National Park in Utah, USA, excites all that travel to experience what nature displays.

Numerous sandstone arches are seen everywhere, dotting the landscape.
    South Window Arch.JPG
  • Canyon Lands National Park extends out to the horizon.

Etched into the sandstone of ancient sea beds, are these endless, convoluted canyons.

The State of Utah can boast of numerous national parks for everyone to travel to.

Hiking demands proper preparation and a good map.

  • Dead Horse Point, a Utah State Park, is located just a few miles from Canyon Lands National Park...and...well worth visiting!

Two thousand feet above a goose neck in the Colorado River, the viewing point has a commanding view of the landscape.

Wild horses were herded into this land peninsula, and many were left to die of thirst, while in view of the waters below.

  • The Grand Canyon National Park offers an ever changing landscape at various times of the day.

If you are fortunate enough to visit this park, make sure you view the same areas at sunrise, mid-day, and sunset.

You will not be disappointed. The pastel colors that repaint the landscapes with changes in sunlight and weather, are a sight to behold.

This is one of the national, natural treasures found in Arizona, in the USA.

  • Zion National Park in Southwest Utah, towers above you at every turn.

The cliffs of cream, pink, and reds change hues as the sun travels across the sky high above.

Emerald pools, and raging brook draw you to their shores.

Mule deer stroll, casually through the park

If you are lucky, you will spot the mountain goats cavorting along the steep cliffs.

The lure of hiking draws you to attempt adventures that are only dreamed about by the folks back home.

Enjoy the wonders of Zion National Park!

  • Zion National Park in southwest Utah, is spectacular in many ways.

For the able bodied, hiking challenges are abundant.

One of the most challenging hikes is "Angels' Landing".

The view here is of one of the steepest ascents that necessitates multiple switchbacks.

If you can muster the courage, and prepare well, you can reach the summit.

Nature Photo Journals would highly recommend this hike.

  • Horseshoe Bend Canyon is just a few hundred yards off of highway 89 S, in Page, Arizona, on the Utah/Arizona border.

This natural wonder lies between the Glen Canyon Recreation Area, which contains the beautiful Lake Powell, and the northernmost edge of the Grand Canyon National Park.

The hike from the highway is down a fairly steep slope, but on a well maintained path, that is easy to follow.

The terrain that you hike through will bring back memories of films you have seen that were filmed in the old west.

  • Lake Powell, located in northern Arizona and southern Utah, is a man made reservoir.

The dam allows the Colorado River to back up into this magnificent lake, surrounded by the sandstone cliffs of the Glen Canyon.

The landscape dramatically places bright blue waters into a desert environment.

  • Mesa Verde National Park resides in southwestern Colorado, and in every grade schools' geography book.

Well know for its well preserved Puebloan cliff dwellings, created before Europeans came to this continent, some 1400 years ago.

  • Driving from Brice Canyon up to Moab, utah, you pass through Monument Canyon.

While most of the landscape is desert and sandstone, prominent geological monuments appear. This is Monument Valley.

Throughout time, some of these monuments have been named. One of the most famous is "The Mexican Hat".

  • Looking back on Stanley, in the Falkland Islands, while hiking from Whalebone Bay to Gypsy Cove. Our guide was a nature expert on Falkland wildlife, as well as the history of the regions. While we saw hundreds of penguin burrows, we were only able to sight a few Magellanic Penguins. Numerous birds were spotted along the trail.

  • If you love hiking, the Tower Trail is a "must" when visiting Bryce Canyon.

The scenery is breathtaking and unique to most hikers.

Unlike the multitude of towers that one sees from the rim, here you experience a real desert landscape.

If you endure till the end, you will be rewarded by a cluster of trees to shelter yourself, as you gaze upon the sandstone arch or bridge before you.
